COMPOSITION
FOR ANTIQUE INSTRUMENTS

SIMONE FONTANELLI

26 AUGUST – 1 SEPTEMBER

GENERAL INFORMATION
The course aims to offer young composers the opportunity to work on an original composition while coming into direct contact with the sonic, poetic, and aesthetic world of historical instruments.
In this context, collaboration between students and professors of the Chigiana–Mozarteum Baroque Program will allow for daily, in-depth work, together with the opportunity to explore some of the most interesting aspects of historical instruments.
Collaboration between students and professors forms the foundation of the work and is a defining feature of the course.
Analysis classes will complete the course program.
Attendance as an auditor is permitted.

These materials must reach the Secretariat of the Accademia Chigiana, via the online application form, together with the registration and examination fee, by 31 May.
The Academy will inform all candidates of the outcome of the selection carried out by the examination commission.

COURSE DETAILS

The course will benefit from the collaboration of an ensemble of historical instruments in residence, present for the entire duration of the course. Students may base their work on this instrumental ensemble.

Well in advance of the course period, admitted students will begin working on the first sketches of their compositions. In this process, they will be guided by the composition professor, with whom they will be put in contact, as well as by the instrumental professors, who will provide all useful indications and suggestions regarding their respective instruments.

The aim is for admitted students to arrive at the opening of the seminar with a composition already at an advanced stage of completion. In this way, during the course it will be possible to make further progress, deepen and develop additional aspects through direct collaboration with the instrumentalists in residence of the workshop, who come from the Mozarteum of Salzburg, thus completing the creative process.

If possible, the composition will be performed by the instrumentalists in residence at the final concert of the course, scheduled for Tuesday, 1 September (Palazzo Chigi Saracini).
